About Raito

raito17Raito, the pride of the city of Vietri sul Mare, enjoys a magnificent view over the Gulf of Salerno and is considered a natural paradise of health between the mountains and the sea.

“Raito Salus infirmorum” (benefit for the sick) is the writing that appears on the ceramic panel placed at the beginning of the road, climbing up the hill, leading to Raito.

Alfonso Gatto, an illustrious poet from Salerno, called it “a sweet country for the winters, good for the shade, good for the sun, good for the sick.” Raito, also called “the throne of the sun,” is nestled on the hill between the blue of the sea at its feet and the green of the mountains that surround it, and a nearly constant clear sky.
